Year 2 is a momentous year in the life of a child.
Welcome to Year 2 at Citipointe Christian College. Throughout this year you will notice significant developments in your child as the Year 2 teachers seek to develop not only strong academic understandings but important character traits such as integrity, work ethic, honesty and a passion for God that will hopefully remain throughout their lives. Year 2 is a time of growth in a child’s independence. They thrive on being more responsible and relish the challenge of taking more ownership for their learning. It is our prayer that you will join with us to create a powerful educational team that provides your child with the support, tools, skills, knowledge and pathways to achieve their dreams.
Semester 1
Unit 1 History – Brisbane – Then and Now
Science – Life Stages
Unit 2 History – Brisbane – Then and Now
Science – Water for Life
During the Science “Life Stages” Unit the children develop their understanding of the different stages of life. This culminates in an adorable incursion where the children cuddle fluffy chickens, feed baby lambs and get close with other delightful farmyard animals. It is a definite photo opportunity. There are smiles and squeals of delight all round. The History Unit “Brisbane – Then and Now” explores how the contributions of a significant person in our local history influenced the landscape and daily life of the people within our community. Artefacts and historical sources hold the stories to our past and document the changes we can see over time. Students will use historical skills to examine and analyse these sources to determine what has changed, why it changed and how we can preserve it for the future.
Semester Two
Unit 3 Geography – Where am I?
Science – Pushes and Pulls
Unit 4 Geography – Where am I?
Science – Mixing Materials
In Semester 2 children look at geographical location. They learn about continents, oceans, the tropics, the equator and following a compass. They even get to use a compass to find lost treasure hidden around the school. The students also get the opportunity to conduct investigations based on forces as they actively participate in the “Pushes and Pulls” Unit. The children complete experiments that explore push and pull forces and allow them to apply this knowledge to real world situations. In “Mixing Materials” the students have the opportunity to take part in more experiments. They will be investigating the world of scientific processes, properties and possibilities as they mix various wet and dry materials.
